LocalWeaverSpotlight2Are you a weaver? Our yarns are spectacular for use in woven projects, much like this möbius cowl that Belinda made using several colors of our Florafil yarn for the 2014 Möbius Cowl Weave-Along (WAL) on Ravelry. This WAL is has been going on all summer in the Weaving in the Saori Way group, hosted by Jill of Santa Cruz Fiber Arts Studio, California. The WAL is over at the end of this month, check out the thread on Ravelry to see more finished projects!

Saori Weaving is a technique created by Misao Jo in 1968. It’s main focus is allowing people from all walks of life to express oneself freely regardless of their age, gender, disability, or otherwise.

“SA” of SAORI has the same meaning as the first syllable of the word “SAI” which is found in Zen vocabulary. It means everything has its own individual dignity. And the “ORI” means weaving.

All flowers are beautiful, even though each individual flower is different in form and color. Because of this difference, “all are good”. Because everything has the same life, life cannot be measured by a yardstick. It is this individuality that makes everything meaningful and the uniqueness of each thread that creates the tapestry of life.”

– Misao Jo, Founder
