Cozy up with Chenille & Early October News
Soft Chenilles – Cozy up in the Cold
Wondering what you can do with our chenilles? How about a quick cowl on your knitting machine! We cast on this cowl to show off the colors of our Rayon Chenille (1725 ypp) – the finished size before seaming is 48 inches by 9 inches. You can find more project details on our blog. We have plenty of larger sized chenilles in our shop as well for hand knitters and weavers!
Striped Cowl Project Details:
Sample was machine knit on a KH260 – Bulky Machine on Carriage Tension 1. Use a light tension on your tension mast to avoid breakage with the chenille. Sample shown is 9″ x 48″ before seaming.
Note: We recommend going wider than 9″ on the cowl if possible, 14″ should be perfect. Other recommendations are to work on a standard gauge machine at about an 8 on the tension for a denser, richer looking fabric.
Using the every-other needle cast on with cast on comb, cast on 56 sts.
Stripes are knit in sections as follows: 6 row stripes of 6 of each dune and sea green; 10 row stripes 4 times each of dune and mushroom, then 6 row stripes of 6 of each mushroom and olive, then 10 row stripes of 4 of each sea green and olive, ending with 6 row stripes of 6 of each dune and natural. Bind off.
Place the cowl right sides together folded in half lengthwise (hotdog.) Single crochet the long sides of the cowl up (you can use fresh yarn or the tails from the stripes. Turn right side out and stitch the tube together.
Local Fun – Greensgrow Fall Festival
Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth at the Greensgrow Fall Festival here in Philadelphia! It was great to meet everyone and spread the word locally about our mill – as well as give out cards with the name of the local shops that carry our yarns! We sampled plenty (maybe all!) of the fall fare from traditional pumpkin bread and apple slices to salted caramel pecan brittle and quinoa. It was a really fun event – if you missed it and live in the northeast, don’t worry! We’ll be vending with our mill ends the 8-10th of November at Stitches East in the convention center in Hartford, Connecticut. We’re in booth 210!
New Pattern – Converge
We have another new pattern for you this month Converge by Beck Gusler. It’s a shawlette that uses 2 skeins of our American Lamb and is toasty for cool, autumn breezes.
The shawl shown uses Pumpkin Spice and Black Onyx. Some other color combos we love: Rainy Day & Blue Moon, Cotton Candy & Pink Elephant, Rainy Day & Black Onyx.
Just close it around your neck with a cute shawl pin!
You Asked & We Listened – Mill Ends
We love getting your feedback and using it to help make your transactions smoother! We are new to selling our closeouts online and realize that every audience has it’s own needs, so we are upgrading how we sell our coned yarns! All of our coned yarns that have varying weights will now be charged by the pound. This means you’ll pay for a full pound up front and then we will refund the difference to you online when we ship your order. We’re also working on adding an upgrade to our cart system that will allow you to easily add on the cost of coning a skeined yarn or skeining a coned yarn without having to wait on an invoice from us
