Opening Day for Baseball

Posted on Apr 1, 2013 in Newsletter

Hey Sportsfans! With 12 opening games today what better way to celebrate than getting your queue ready for the long baseball season!

There is plenty of time to knit up some gear for yourself or favorite fan and time to plan ahead! Here are some of our top pics from Ravelry for baseball themed knitting patterns:

Capitan (4)
First off, you’ll need a cute cap to keep the sun off your face! The Capitan Hat(above) by Rosi Garmendia is just the ticket to look sporty and sweet. She has some other beautiful designs you should check out while your over on her Ravelry page!

Baseball Potholder, used with permission.

The Baseball potholder by Jennifer Lewis is perfect for cooking up some baked beans to go with your hotdogs if you are watching the game from home.

Baby Baseball Tee
Taking your wee-one to watch the game with you? They’d look sporting in Candlestick(above) by the seriously talented designer, Hilary Smith Callis. She has many other beautiful patterns as well!

Double Play by Karen Juliano is a super cute pair of baseball stitched mitts to keep hands cozy for those chilly, windy games. It calls for a light worsted weight which means our DK weight Florafil should work just fine. Indian Paintbrush and Cotton would be perfect baseball colors!

Feeling a little adventurous and want to try out an interesting sock pattern? Curveball by Lindsay Potter will have you hitting a home run.

ya gotta believe!
Last but not least, every Phillies fan needs their own Phun Phur Phanatic to cheer on the Fightin Phils during the season! This pattern is by local stitcher Joan De Lurio. Go Phils!

Socks, hats, and mitts are all great ballpark knitting items if you aren’t a big fan of the game but love the experience of going to the park. I like to cast on a pair of socks in my teams colors each year to work on through out the season. When the Phils get to the world series again this year, you can bet I’ll be casting on another special pair of socks or a shawl just for world series games.

Like baseball and stitching but can’t find anyone to go with? Check out your local ravelry boards to see when Stitch N’ Pitch is happening and who from your area is going in to sit together! Stitch N’ Pitch takes crafting to the ballpark and is some serious fun – they are still working on setting the specific outing days for this year.

Happy stitching!
