Saori Weaving with MiAY
Are you a weaver? Our yarns are spectacular for use in woven projects, much like this möbius cowl that Belinda Toby made using several colors of our Florafil yarn for the 2014 Möbius Cowl Weave-Along (WAL) on Ravelry. This WAL went on all summer in the Weaving in the Saori Way group, hosted by Jill of Santa Cruz Fiber Arts Studio, California. The WAL has been over for a couple of years, but check out the thread on Ravelry to see the finished projects!
Not familiar with what Saori weaving is?
Saori Weaving is a technique created by Japanese weaver, Misao Jo, in 1968. Its main focus is allowing people from all walks of life to express oneself freely regardless of their age, gender, disability, or otherwise.
The “SA” of SAORI comes from the Zen vocabulary meaning everything has its own individual dignity. And “ORI” is Japanese for weaving. Each woven piece is unique and reflects a weaver’s inner self, what a great way to show off your creativity!
“All flowers are beautiful, even though each individual flower is different in form and color. Because of this difference, “all are good”. Because everything has the same life, life cannot be measured by a yardstick. It is this individuality that makes everything meaningful and the uniqueness of each thread that creates the tapestry of life.”
– Misao Jo, Founder
